The history of Dean Road Recreation Center dates back to the late 1960’s and 70’s when the Auburn Parks and Recreation offices were located in the National Guard Armory building at 307 South Dean Road. Basketball was the only sport played at the Dean Road Recreation Center during this time. In 1973 the Parks and Recreation Department moved to the Water Board Building; during this time the Frank Brown Recreation Center was built. Upon completion of the Frank Brown Recreation Center, the Parks and Recreation Department relocated to that facility until 1991.The present-day facility was born in 1991, after renovations to the old Armory location were made to create office spaces and move the Ceramics Studio from Auburn Junior High School. One interesting fact about the Dean Road Recreation Center is that the Ceramics’ kiln room once housed Army artillery and ammunition.

It offers children's, homeschool, adult, and senior ceramic classes.
