2017 will be the 61st consecutive year the League of American Bicyclists has declared May to be National Bike Month™. In support of the League, the City of Auburn promoted Bike-to-Work Week May 15-19 with Bike-to-Work day being Friday, May 19 and issued a personal challenge for Bike-to-School Day on Wednesday, May 10.
Here are a few of the events that took place during 2017 Bike Month:
- May 2, 2017 at 11:30 am, the public was invited to join the Auburn Bicycle Committee at City Hall when Mayor Ham proclaimed May as National Bike Month.
- May 5, 4:00 pm - "Cinco de Biko" - The Grand Opening Ride on Opelika's new Destination Bike Path, led by Mayor Fuller .
- May 10 - "Bike to School Day" – Auburn students who ride their bike to school in the participating schools of OES and Pick will get to participate in an ice cream social as a special thank you for making the commute by bike.
- May 11, 6:30 pm - "Cruise and Brews" - James Brothers Bike Shop hosted a short public ride and returned to the shop for social time afterwards.
