ALOA is comprised of a group of governmental agencies (City of Auburn, Lee County, City of Opelika, Auburn
University) that have joined together to address the requirements of the EPAs Phase II Storm Water Regulations.
The ALOA Citizens Advisory Committee convened for the first time on May 22, 2001. The Committees goal was to present a workable
policy document to all involved agencies by March 2002.
ALOA Time Line
Informal meetings began between participating governmental agencies (Auburn, Lee County, Opelika, and Auburn University) in
early 2000.
The "Phase II Storm Water Citizen Advisory Committee" (ALOA) was convened in May of 2001.
Monthly meetings of the ALOA group were held from May through November of 2001 to draft the language of the policy.
Weekly meetings of the participating agencies' staff were held from May through November to review and incorporate public
comments into the policy.
Proposed document forwarded by Chairman of the Citizen Advisory Committee to Councils and Committees members on December 10,
2001.
Formal presentation to Joint Councils and Committees made on January 17th 2002.
Additional presentations made to interested groups since the Joint Councils and Committees Meeting (Green Space Committee,
League of Women Voters, etc.).
Adoption of the policy by Auburn to place in March 2002.
Policy was implemented by Auburn in July 2002.
