The weather may be slightly chillier, but the campaign remained the same...the week of October 15th-19th was Public Safety Week, presented by WaCaDa!, a joint partnership between the City of Auburn and Auburn University. WaCaDa! is aimed at all users of transportation in Auburn, no matter the form: motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Public Safety Week Fall 2007

  • Monday, October 15th: Our target area was along West Magnolia Ave between Donahue Dr and College Street. We were focused on crosswalk-related violations made by pedestrians and cyclists, as well as motorists who do not stop at crosswalks. Literature, safety tips, candy, and giveaways were distributed by student volunteers throughout the area. The Auburn Police Division were present between 7:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
  • Here's a picture from the WaCaDa! kickoff Monday morning. Mayor Bill Ham, Jr. was present to represent the City of Auburn, while Dean of Students Dr. Johnny Green, President Dr. Jay Gogue, and, of course, school mascot Aubie, represented Auburn University.

  • Tuesday, October 16th: Our target area was South Donahue Dr around the area of the Plainsman Park crosswalk. We will again be focused on crosswalk-related violations being made by pedestrians and cyclists, as well as motorists who do not stop at crosswalks. Literature, safety tips, candy, and giveaways were distributed by student volunteers in the surrounding area. The Auburn Police Division were present between 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 17th: Our target area was Toomer's Corner and the Downtown Business District. Our focus was crosswalk-related violations for cyclists and pedestrians, with the focus on motorists being for not stopping at crosswalks, running red lights, and blocking the intersection. Literature, safety tips, candy, and giveaways were distributed by student volunteers through both the target area and Ross Circle. The Auburn Police were present from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 18th: Our target area was Toomer's Corner and the Downtown Business District. Our focus on Thursday was pedestrian and cyclists who make crosswalk-related violations, and motorists for not stopping at crosswalks, running red lights, and blocking the intersection. Literature, safety tips, candy, and giveaways were distributed by student volunteers at the target area as well as near Ross Circle. The Auburn Police were present from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
  • Friday, October 19th: During the final day of Safety Week, our targeted area was the intersection of North College Street and Glenn Ave. Literature, safety tips, candy, and giveaways were distributed to those utilizing the crosswalks by student volunteers, and the focus on motorists was for running red lights and blocking the intersection. The Auburn Police were present from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
