- The USTA
Professional Women's Tennis Tournament will be hosted at the City of
Auburn/Auburn University Yarbrough Tennis Center from November 3rd to 9th.
(Monica Niculescu,
who was previously mentioned in conjunction with this tournament, has
withdrawn.) The tournament is expected to draw many of the top women's
tennis players from around the world, including Rosana de los Rios, Edina
Gallovits, Julie Ditty, and Melinda Czink. Many players qualifying for the
tournament's main draw are currently ranked among the world's top 200
players.
The tournament field includes a 32 player main draw, a 16 team doubles draw,
and a 32 player qualifying draw. Qualifying begins Sunday, November 2. The
public is invited to attend the matches - admission is $3/day. Tournament
passes are available for $20. Admission for children 12 & under is free.
Volunteers are needed to assist with day-to-day tournament tasks as well as to provide daily transportation for the players to and from the tournament site. Tournament sponsorships are also available.
