Responsibilities
The Public Works Department provides engineering and construction services for the City of Auburn. The individuals who devote their professional time and energy to Public Works are committed to making the Auburn community a better, safer and more comfortable place to live. It is a fundamental goal of the Public Works Department of the City of Auburn to provide citizens with a better quality of life through Public Works.
Public Works is represented by
five divisions
: Construction and Maintenance, Engineering, Inspections, Administration, and Traffic Engineering.
Upcoming Major Roadway Improvements
Statistics
FY 2012
The Construction & Maintenance Division constructed or repaired 4,784 feet of sidewalk last year.
The Traffic Engineering Division replaced, repaired, or reset more than 750 street signs during the year.
The Engineering Inspection Division inspected 260 storm water retention facilities.
The Engineering Design Division’s Survey Crew collected and entered into GPS 950 storm water inlets over the past six months.
The Public Works Department is currently preparing to begin work on a number of roadway projects to improve the traffic flow in Auburn:
The Technology Parkway/Thistle Lane Extension project will consists of extending West Veterans Boulevard from Cox Road to Auburn Technology Park-West.
The Moores Mill Road Resurfacing Project will consist of resurfacing Moores Mill Road from Dean Road to Samford Avenue. As part of the resurfacing project, we will add additional turn lanes on Moores Mill Road at the Dean Road intersection to improve traffic flow.
The South College Street and Longleaf Drive Intersection Improvements Project- Phase 2 will consist of widening South College Street and Longleaf Drive to add dual left turn lanes on all approaches except northbound. We completed Phase 1 of the intersection improvements in FY11.
The South College Street and Shug Jordan Parkway/East University Drive Intersection Improvements Project will consist of widening all approaches of the intersection and providing additional left and right turn lanes.
