The Fire Division, under the
direction of the Fire Chief, is responsible for fire suppression within the City of Auburn as well as on Auburn University Campus. They
also provide rescue services and make inspections of existing buildings as part of their pre-fire plan program. This program
familiarizes the firefighters with the floor plan and potential hazards in an existing building in case of an emergency. They conduct
fire drills at all area schools as well as dorms and fraternities at Auburn University. There are currently
five fire stations in Auburn.
Mission
To provide fire suppression, prevent the loss of life and property from fires and provide rescue services.
Burn Permits
Residential burn permits are issued by the Auburn Fire Department at no charge. A site inspection must be scheduled with AFD personnel.
Upon completion of a successful site inspection, a permit will be issued. Burn permits may be valid through the end of the calendar year.
Each time you wish to burn within that time period, you must notify the AFD. For more information on obtaining a burn permit, please
contact the Battalion Chief at (334) 501-3166.
For information on commercial burn permits, please contact the Auburn Fire Department at (334) 501-3166.
Hydrant Testing
AFD personnel perform hydrant testing on a daily basis in different locations throughout the city. The purposes of hydrant testing are
to insure proper hydrant function, to flush the water system, and to insure an accurate record of hydrant pressure. The Insurance
Service Organization requires that all hydrants be tested at least twice a year. For exact times and locations of hydrant testing, please
contact the City of Auburn Water Works Board at (334) 501-3060.
