July 4, 2009: Annual Fourth of July Celebration, Sponsored by Briggs & Stratton
Celebrate our nation's 233rd birthday at the City of Auburn's Annual Fourth of July Celebration, sponsored by Briggs & Stratton Corporation, on Saturday, July 4 behind the home side of Duck Samford Stadium. Gates open at 6 p.m. Enjoy great food, live music from Floyd the Barber, and a show-stopping fireworks display.  So grab your picnic basket, blanket and the family and join us for a fabulous night of entertainment and a chance to show your patriotic spirit! Music and children's activities begin at 7 p.m., followed by fireworks at 9 p.m. Admission is FREE!  Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chairs.  Enjoy a picnic dinner with family and friends or purchase refreshments from local vendors on-site. July 6 - August 14, 2009:  Summer Invitational 2009
The Summer Invitational 2009 is an exhibition of monochromatic works in a variety of media by local and regional artists.  This exhibition will correlate with the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center's 10th Anniversary Celebration.  The exhibition is free and open to the public Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.  For more information about the art gallery or future exhibitions, please contact the Community Arts Center at 334-501-2963.

 

July 16, 2009: Deadline to Register for the X-Cell Paddling Trip on the Coosa River
Attention all paddlers ages 12-15 years!  Join Auburn Parks & Recreation and Southern Trails for a day of adventure while kayaking the Coosa River.  The course is 6 miles long and consists of moving flat water, with Class I and II rapids.  All paddlers must be able to swim and should wear appropriate clothing, sunscreen, and footwear that will stay on during a swim.  Top quality river equipment will be provided.  Bring a light lunch and drink in a soft-sided, waterproof container.  The deadline to register is July 16 and the trip will take place on Saturday, July 25.  For more information, please contact Melissa Weldon at 334-501-2946.

 

July 30, 2009:  Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center Celebrates 10 Years
Please join us as we celebrate the past, present and future of the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center on Thursday, July 30 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Festivities will include day-long free activities including art camp exhibitions, tributes to memorable AACT theatre productions, and more.  Live musical entertainment will be provided Thursday evening during a reception from 5 - 7 p.m. with refreshments and an AACT skit.   Mark your calendar as the community celebrates a decade of community partnerships involving art education programming, theatre, and dance at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. August 1, 2009: 4th Annual Mayors Ball benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Lee County
The Mayors Ball began four years ago as an effort to raise additional funds for the daily operating expenses of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Lee County.  This organization focuses on inspiring and enabling young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.  This elegant evening is an opportunity for the members of our community to come together and enjoy cocktails, an excellent dinner, and dancing to the fun and funky sounds of local favorite Kidd Blue. Sundown Concert Series at Kiesel Park
Enjoy a night (or several nights) of entertainment at one of Auburn's premier parks...Kiesel Park is the perfect setting to listen to the enchanting sounds of local and regional musicians.  Bring the family, a picnic supper, your lawn chairs and maybe even the family dog and enjoy a free, relaxing evening under the stars.

October 29, 2009: 9th Annual Downtown Trick or Treat
Ages:
  12 years and younger
Bring your monsters, stars, warriors and clowns to the best party in town.  Join us in this excellent alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating.  Downtown merchants will provide treats for the children and delightful sounds from our "special" entertainment will fill the night air.  Also, donn't miss out on your chance to win the "Best Costume" contest!  Parents must accompany children at this event.
