Corner Kickoff Event Set for Aug. 25

Auburn, Ala. - Auburn Parks and Recreation is pleased to partner with the Auburn University Athletics Department, Auburn IMG Sports Network, and AuburnArt for a brand new, FREE community event, Corner Kickoff. Auburn citizens are invited to join the Auburn Family for this inaugural event on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 6 - 9:30 p.m. in downtown Auburn. Downtown streets will be closed for citizens to shop, dine, and enjoy a preview of the gameday atmosphere. At 7:30 p.m., Auburn University Athletics and the Auburn IMG Sports Network will preview "Auburn Football: Everyday Show," a collaborative effort offering fans a unique perspective of Auburn Athletics and behind the scenes looks at players, coaches, and practices, as well as exclusive footage. Enjoy a preview of the Auburn Everyday Show on a 25 foot by 14 foot inflatable screen at Toomer's Corner.

“The debut of our Outdoor Movie Series and Float-N-Movies this summer opened the door for other opportunities to create unique events for our citizens,” said Becky Richardson, Auburn Parks and Recreation Director. "The City of Auburn is fortunate to have many business and community partners who go above and beyond to assist us in providing community events for our citizens to enjoy. Auburn citizens are invested in this community, Auburn University, and its sports teams and this is a wonderful way to bring the Auburn community and the Auburn Family together to kick off another great school year. We're grateful to our sponsors, Auburn University Athletics, Auburn IMG Sports, and AuburnArt for making this event a reality.”

Auburn Parks and Recreation hosted its inaugural Outdoor Movie Series on Friday evenings at Duck Samford Park – Field 1 this summer. The series featured free outdoor movies for families, including titles such as “Hugo” and “E.T.” In addition to the outdoor movies, citizens also have new Float-N-Movies to choose from throughout the summer. In July, families enjoyed “Shark Tale” on the big screen at Samford Pool. Adults ages 19 and up have another chance to catch a Float-N-Movie with a showing of “Jaws” the week before Corner KickOff – Saturday, Aug. 18 at 8:30 p.m. at Samford Pool.

Alison Hall, Community and Special Programs Director, said, "We’re excited to follow up this summer’s movie series with an event for the entire Auburn Family. There is no greater place for an Auburn community and Auburn University event to come together than at Toomer's Corner. As the gateway between the City and the University, Toomer's Corner offers the perfect venue for us to kick off another exciting school year. We encourage attendees to bring their tailgate chairs and set up along North College Street and East Magnolia Avenue to view the screen after they've had a chance to shop and dine downtown with our merchants."
