JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for designing
networks and developing and maintaining computer systems and applications in
support of City activities.
MAJOR DUTIES:
o Troubleshoots, repairs, maintains, and
installs computer equipment, peripherals, data communications and computer
network systems.
o Assists in the repair, installation, and
testing of complex pieces of equipment or local area networks.
o Prepares and submits vendor warranty claims,
parts, and documentation associated with warranty repairs.
o Configures and sets up servers to work with
software programs.
o Maintains back-up generators and UPS
stations; coordinates service call and contracts as necessary.
o Plans, designs and creates CD/DVD and
internet based materials.
o Resolves computer and technical problems.
o Administers virus protection for all client and
server workstations.
o Repairs and troubleshoots telephony
equipment.
o Trains users on software packages.
o Fabricates cables for use in network
connectivity.
o Assists in the design and maintenance of the
City’s web site.
o Creates, designs and edits technology
e-newsletters for City.
o Coordinates the City’s radio fleet.
o Maintains and publishes information to other
departments via intranet.
o Modifies existing software utilizing proper
programming techniques.
o Maintains and queries SQL databases.
o Performs other related duties as assigned.

of computer programming languages and a variety of high level and procedural

SUPERVISORY
CONTROLS: The Chief Information Officer
assigns work in terms of very general instructions. Completed work is spot-checked for compliance
with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include Internet protocols and
technical standards, hardware and software manuals, relevant federal and state
laws and regulations, department and City policies and procedures, and computer
system documentation and instructions.
These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in
application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied technical
information system duties. The number
and diversity of tasks, the amount of necessary technical knowledge required,
and the need for accuracy and expediency contribute to the complexity of the
work.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to maintain
computer information systems and Internet sites for the City. Successful performance results in accurate,
easily accessible, and timely information, which contributes to overall City
goals.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with computer
consultants, sales representatives, programmers, technical support engineers,
co-workers, other City employees, and the general public.
PURPOSE OF
CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give
or exchange information, provide services, and resolve problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting
at a desk or table, with intermittent standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and
heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses equipment requiring a high degree of
dexterity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office,
computer room, stockroom or warehouse.
The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease and machinery with
moving parts. At times, work may require
the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
o Knowledge
and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a
baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
o Sufficient
experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of
the position, usually associated with the completion of an
apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two
years.
o
Possession
of Microsoft MCSE certification or the ability to obtain MCSE certification
within six months of employment.
o An employee in this position may be designated as a Senior Network
Engineer if meeting the requirements of the City of
o Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s
license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
