Is your New Year's Resolution to lose weight, decrease your stress levels, get in better shape, or
enjoy life more? In 2008, will you be pushing your limits
by pushing your pedals? If so, we invite you to join the first annual Bike Challenge.
In 2008, challenge yourself to a goal of riding 34, 62, or 100 miles in a single bike trip by September 2008;
in addition, there will be a junior ride challenge of 10 miles.
Four events will be held, each one of increasing distance to help you pedal your way to your ultimate goal. Our
first event will be the "Crank Your Heart" ride February 9th, held in conjunction with the "Love Your Heart" run through beautiful
Chewacla Park. Registration for this ride will be held in conjunction with the run, and the form will be linked online when it becomes available.
Participation is open to anyone who wants to increase their current mileage or recreation
level. We have three goal levels to choose from: beginner, intermediate, and
experienced. When you register for the Challenge,
you will select your ultimate goal to complete by September 2008. See our
updated quiz to help you
determine what your goal should be. Participants must register for the Bicycle Challenge prior to the February 9th event. Those who accomplish their goal
will receive a reward for completion.
As mentioned before, there are a total of 4 events that riders MUST
participate in to complete the Challenge. Not only must you participate, but with each ride you must increase your mileage. Those rides are:
Please note there is no charge to participate in the Challenge, but each event has a participation fee.
Similarly, you will be able to win event prizes as well as those from the Bike Challenge.
If there is a scheduling conflict with one of our planned rides, participants
are able to work with the Bike Challenge team* to set up a ride at a different
time. Participants should be aware that up to 2 events may be substituted
with the Bike Challenge team, but that a minimum of 2 events must be registered
and paid for in order to qualify for the Challenge.
The Bike Rides progress in difficulty as we move through the year. The following are the levels of progression:
Beginner: Start with 3 miles February 9th, increase to 7, 20ish, 34 miles
Intermediate: Start with 11 miles February 9th, increase to 14, 30ish, 64 miles
Advanced: Start with 22, increase to 30, 50ish, 100 miles
