
The City of Auburn and the Auburn Bicycle Committee will host Bike Bash 2010 on Saturday, May 1st! This will be the 11th Anniversary of this great biking event and will be held in conjunction with National Bike Month.
Bike Bash is an event to encourage biking activities, endorse bicycle safety, promote the health benefits of this great leisure sport and emphasize local bike-friendly trails and areas. Bicycle rides of varying distances will be offered for beginners, as well as advanced riders, and the Bash offers a unicycle demonstration and obstacle course. The event will also include bicycle inspections, helmet fittings, informative booths, refreshments & live musical entertainment. Visit the Bike Bash 2010 Sponsors page and support our sponsors. Bike Bash 2010 will occur on May 1st from 7:00 AM until 10:00 AM. All of the rides will begin and end at Town Creek Park at 1150 South Gay Street. The registration starts at 7:00 AM with the door prize drawings held at 10:00 AM (you must be present to win). The start time for the rides are: Extended ride: 7:45 AM*T-SHIRTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED AFTER PRE-REGISTRATION ENDS ON MONDAY, APRIL 26, 2010 OR FOR DAY-OF REGISTRATION. Safety Rules & Day of Event Information:
1. All bicyclists must obey all traffic signals, stop signs, and police officers as required by law. This is NOT a race. 2. Helmets are required on all bicyclists while on this ride. Alabama law requires helmets for ages 16 and under. Make sure your helmet fits properly.y. 3. All riders ages 12 & under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Riders, ages 13 – 17, can ride unaccompanied as long as their registration form has been signed by a parent or guardian. 4. During the ride, obey all intersection marshals. 5. See and Be Seen. Drivers need to see you to avoid you. Stay out of the driver's blind spot. Make eye contact with drivers when crossing busy streets. 6. Bicycle riders should obey the same rules as cars and buses. 7. Bicyclists should signal whether they are turning right or left or stopping. Children should stop riding while they are signaling for a turn. 8. Bicyclists should be aware of driveways, sidewalks and crosswalks which could be potential danger zones. Always obey the rule - Look left, then right, then left again before proceeding. 9. Bicyclists should ride with traffic on the right-hand side of the road. 10. Look behind you before making a turn, swerving or getting into the road. 11. Never follow another rider who is not obeying the rules. 12. Any photos taken by City of Auburn personnel throughout the event become property of the City of Auburn. 13. Rest Stops will be available during the ride. First aid kits will be on site and a Sag Wagon will follow certain routes.
