Bike Bash 2007 was held on Saturday, April 14th. The event was held at the
Ogletree Village Shopping center where the merchants offered support in the form
of sponsorships, volunteers, and restrooms. Participants enjoyed live music
performed by Incahoots while bicycle inspections were offered by the Bike Shop in
Auburn and Golden's Bicycles in Opelika. In addition, the Auburn Police were on
hand for helmet fittings and ride escorts. All activities were offered to the
public free of charge.
Four routes of varying distances were offered this year ranging from
approximately 2 miles to approximately 18 miles. Over 150 participants chanced
the weather to come out and support bicycling at this fun, family-friendly
event. This year's routes featured the Grove Hill/Moore's Mill Bikeway, the bike
lanes on Ogletree Road and Wright's Mill Road as well as the Charlotte and
Curtis Ward Bikeway.
To culminate the celebration, over 20 door prizes were awarded. The Grand Prizes,
donated by The Bike Shop and Golden's Bike Shop, were two brand new
bicycle. Many thanks go out to all of our sponsors who help make this event such a
success. Look for information soon regarding the 2008 Bike Bash to be held April
12, 2008.
Our 2007 Bike Bash winners! From Ogletree Elementary School: Ms. Adrian, Mrs. Williams,
Mrs. Yarbrough, Miss Bush and Mr. Zutter's 4th grade classes. The students from
Ogletree Elementary had the highest level of participation from any elementary
school and won a Pizza Party. The students in Mrs. Williams' class (pictured left) also were the winners of the 2007
Bike to School Competition, and they enjoyed Bruster's Ice Cream Social Party.
Congratulations, everyone!
Apparently, Aubie was a bit worried about the level of security at Bike Bash 2007. I wonder why?
Oh. Maybe it was the fact that everyone just started riding towards him...or maybe he has cyclophobia?
Aubie doesn't look like he is the only one regretting where they are.... "Maybe, possibly, this might not have been the best idea after all..."
While everyone was supposed to be on a bicycle (or a tricycle), one little kid just refused to get out of the car!
Again with the bicycle portion of the ride. When we say Bike Bash, we mean bicycle-bike. Not motorized. Didn't it become obvious after you sped past everyone?
A big thanks goes out to the Auburn Bike Patrol, who are a big help every year with helmet fittings and ride escorts!
Umm...yay. I won. That's a good thing, no matter what. Right?
