Who uses this facility?

This facility, like most facilities in the Parks and Recreation Department, is available for rental. Rental for the performance room is limited to arts related events. The Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center is also the "home" of  the Auburn Arts Association, Auburn Area Community Theatre, Studio 222, AU Tiger Strings, Village Squares, Auburn Allemanders and the AU Swing Dance Association.


How can I showcase my artwork?

The Art Gallery is maintained by the Auburn Arts Association. You may contact them at (334) 887-2832 to find out more about entering your art work in an upcoming exhibition.


How can I reserve or rent the space?

All of the rooms in the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center can be rented, with the exception of the Art Gallery. For rental information, please stop by Dean Road Recreation Center for more information. Once the application is turned in, it will be reviewed and you will be notified if your application is approved. You may download a diagram of the facility and the application, then fill it out and drop it by the Dean Road Recreation Center.


How can I find out more information about the Auburn Area Community Theatre?

Community Theatre is alive in Auburn!

A core group of actors, artists, and crews have organized the Auburn Area Community Theatre (AACT), they continue to provide quality, entertaining and thought-provoking theatre to Auburn and East Central Alabama. AACT also continues producing fine children's theatre Productions with hits such as "Charlottes Web," "Fiddler on the Roof, Jr. and "Seussical, Jr!" See you at the show! Please contact the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center for more information about the Auburn Area Community Theater.


What are the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center's Operating Hours?

The Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center is open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Many nights you can find the Arts Center open until 9 p.m. due to programs and classes that are offered each quarter. The center will open on Saturday and/or Sunday for special events only. The Art Gallery is open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.


What kinds of programs are offered?

The Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center offers numerous arts programs. They encompass the various disciplines of the arts. If you would like to read more about the specific programs offered at the Arts Center, please visit our Programs page.


Can I teach a program at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center?

We always welcome new instructors and new programs. If you are interested in teaching an art, dance, music, language or theatre class, please contact the Arts Center at 501-2963.


Directions to the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center?

From Montgomery, AL to Auburn, AL:

Take I-85 North. Take Exit 51 (Auburn University & Hwy. 29). Take Left off of the exit ramp. You are now on College St., also known as Hwy. 29.  Stay on College St. for a few miles. Take a right at the intersection of College St. and Glenn Ave.  Take a left at the intersection of Glenn Ave. and N. Gay St.  Go over the railroad tracks and take a right onto Opelika Rd. (Hwy. 29). Look to your left for the Frank Brown Recreation Center (directly across from the Post Office). Turn into the FBRC and drive through the parking lot. The Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center is located directly behind FBRC.

From Atlanta, GA to Auburn, AL:

South on I-85 for approximately 100 miles to exit #57 in Alabama (Auburn-Opelika Airport/Glenn Ave. exit). Veer right off of exit to the stop light. Turn left at light onto Glenn Ave. Continue straight ahead through 2 traffic lights. At the 3rd light, turn right onto North Ross St. Cross over the railroad tracks and turn left at the traffic light onto Opelika Rd. Go approximately 2 blocks and turn right at the "one-way" sign across from the U.S. Post Office. The Frank Brown Recreation Center will be on your left after you turn. Continue past the Frank Brown Recreation Center through the parking lot to the new building in the back, the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center.
