The Auburn Arts Association was founded as a non-profit community-based arts organization in 1982. Its primary objectives are to promote arts education, to encourage and support artists and arts initiatives, and to stimulate community interest in the arts.

The Arts Association is funded by grants, contributions, and membership dues. All funds generated by its Annual Auction go directly to support arts projects that serve the community. Among the arts activities organized, initiated and/or supported by the Association are:

Scholarships

Approximately fifteen scholarships are awarded each year to Auburn artists, writers, musicians, dancers and performers to help them develop their individual talents and to groups for special arts projects that benefit the community.

Arts Education Projects

Our ARTSventure program provides arts events and professional artists and performers to offer cultural opportunities and enhance arts instruction for children in the Auburn Elementary Schools. Judges, medals and a reception are provided for the annual PTA Reflections competition.

Community Arts Center

The Auburn Arts Association was instrumental in the planning, design and construction of the Community Arts Center and obtained grants and contributions to provide basic furnishings and equipment. Because of their generous support of the arts in our community, along with their support for the construction of the Center, the City of Auburn allows the Auburn Arts Association to maintain and curate the art gallery. Together the Community Arts Center and the Auburn Arts Association work hand-in-hand to create diverse art programs, unique special events and interesting gallery exhibitions for the entire community.

Art Exhibitions & Programs

A grant from Alabama Power helped establish the Art Gallery in the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. The Arts Association directs the gallery's exhibition program, organizes art classes for adults and home-schooled children, and sponsoring special performances for children.

Auburn Community Orchestra

The Association supported the formation of the orchestra, serves as its fiscal agent, and assists in preparing grant proposals and raising funds.

Auburn Area Community Theatre

AACT is actively soliciting new members who have an interest in helping the growth of community theatre.  AACT members and the community-at-large are encouraged to participate.  Please call Andrea Holmes at 334-559-0807 for more information.
