Auburn, Ala. - We are just a week away from the 7th Annual SummerNight Downtown Art Walk, hosted by the City of Auburn, Auburn Arts Association, and Auburn Downtown Merchant Association. Mark your calendars for Friday, June 14 from 6 – 9:30 p.m. and join us for this block party with an artistic flair! SummerNight is a FREE, downtown entertainment district event. Event highlights include local and regional artists, live music, children’s activities, and late-night shopping and dining with downtown merchants and restaurants, as well as an opportunity to eat lots of pie!
Citizens are encouraged to arrive early and take advantage of shopping and dining specials with downtown merchants and restaurants. A variety of local and regional artists will be selling their works in our downtown artist marketplace.
In addition to all of the great activities, the community has the opportunity to participate in the inaugural Pie Bake-Off. Winners will be announced at 7:15 p.m. on the main stage of SummerNight at Toomer's Corner. Pie slices will be sold at the Auburn Arts Association’s Pie Line for $3 and all proceeds will benefit the Auburn Arts Association and their educational programs.
This year’s SummerNight entertainment line-up features Dave Potts, performing on the tiger paw at Toomer’s Corner from 6 – 7:15 p.m. A singer and songwriter of contemporary folk songs, Potts will lure patrons in with his songs about life in small, southern towns. Auburn has influenced Potts’ music in a positive way. Potts has earned numerous awards and accolades for his creations. His presence on the stage is what defines him as an artist, engaging his audience with not only his music, but his humor.
Taking center stage at the tiger paw from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. is Spoonful James. The “southern-fried soul-searching” theme of the music connects with fans much like the band itself connects on stage. After touring with American Idol winner Taylor Hicks, Spoonful James brought new audiences who fanatically continue to listen to their music. The excitement, the intensity, and the down-home funkiness of Spoonful James continue to make this band a local favorite.
Additional SummerNight activities include Aubie, Pie Lab, and a pop-up art gallery. Children can participate in SummerNight arts activities such as Block-o-Rama, sidewalk chalk, and pie-themed projects.
