Auburn CityKids Exhibition and Reception

Auburn, Ala. - Art lovers of all ages are invited to view the Auburn CityKids exhibition, on display Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center (JDCAC). The exhibition showcases art created by students during Auburn CityKids at JDCAC. A reception honoring the artists will be held on Thursday from 5:30 - 6 p.m. at the Arts Center. The reception is free and open to the public.

Auburn CityKids is a free, community-based visual arts program for children ages 7 – 13. The program provides children with the opportunity to learn in an intellectually stimulating and creative environment while developing meaningful relationships with peers and mentors. The program, directed by Auburn University Professor Chichi Lovett, is sponsored by Auburn Parks and Recreation, the Auburn Arts Association, and the Art Department at Auburn University. Auburn CityKids is taught by Auburn University students enrolled in Lovett’s ARTS 4010 class. Lovett is thrilled about the exhibition and explains, “It is important that our community’s young artists, their Auburn University student teachers, and our community volunteers know that they have the support of the community at large. Our young artists are expressing themselves in positive, creative, and constructive ways that are valuable to all of us. I believe that it is imperative that they know that the work they have been doing is valued, and also that art is for everyone - creator and viewer.”

For more information, please contact the Arts Center at 501-2963.
