WUERZ Group Announces New Auburn Operation

Auburn, Ala. - The WÜRZ-Group of Driedorf Germany recently announced that they would establish a new operation in Auburn, Alabama.  The WÜRZ-Group is a medium-sized family of businesses focusing on high precision metal work including heat and surface treatment as well as the design and operation of complex automated assembly lines.   The initial investment by WÜRZ is estimated at $2.78 mil and will create approximately 10 jobs in Auburn over the next two years.

This first US operation of WÜRZ will operate in Auburn under the name of Wuerz Precision Technologies – or WPT - to better service its customers in North America.  The company will operate at 2410 West Tech Lane in the Auburn Technology Park West.

“Auburn is proud to welcome another corporate citizen that we expect will be very successful and an important employer for this community. I understand that their quality of workmanship is truly first class,” stated Auburn Mayor Bill Ham, Jr.

The company produces precision mechanical parts and components and also constructs and manufactures forming tools for chipless forming and wear resistance.  Since 2009 it also offers cold rolling techniques in its portfolio.  The customers of WÜRZ are represented in components servicing the aerospace, automotive, machine tool industries.

Mr. Raimund Wuerz, owner and president, stated: “We were able to make this step into the US market in partnership with the Stuttgart based company Aluminum Technology Schmid which already has an operation in Auburn.  Our collaboration will ultimately benefit both companies and our customers.”

Located in central Germany, the WÜRZ- Group is comprised of the three companies: WÜRZ Fertigungstechnik GmbH, KÄMPFER WÜRZ Umformtechnik GmbH and BÜHLER WÜRZ Kaltwalztechnik GmbH.

In conjunction with WUERZ, Aluminum Technology Schmid North America Inc. also announced additional investment in equipment, specifically growing the die casting capacity in Auburn.  “We see our growth in aluminum products that are casted and machined in-house here in Alabama.  This is our third expansion in Auburn.  We continue to see growth opportunities of our German clientele in the US,” stated Christoph Doerr, President of Aluminum Technology Schmid.
