Auburn, Ala. – SmartMoney.com touted Auburn’s amenities for retirees in its August 2012 feature article entitled “Retire Here, Not There: Alabama.” The article gave Auburn major accolades for its numerous activities for older adults, its variety of picturesque golf courses, relatively low cost of living and its ideal location between large cities. “The presence of the university means that retirees have access to the school’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, as well as many cultural amenities,” the article stated.
Huntsville, Fairhope and Orange Beach/Gulf Shores were also featured as ”the best that Alabama has to offer" for retirement. The article emphasized Alabama’s benefits by explaining that retirees seeking the “retirement trifecta” of golf, the beach and warm weather may think first of Palm Beach, Hilton Head or Santa Barbara, but “those same sugar-sand beaches, sunshine and some of the best golf in the nation can be had at a much lower price – in Alabama.”
