Auburn, Ala. - If we have to say so long to summer, we're going to do it in style! Join Auburn Parks and Recreation for the 5th Annual Farewell Summer Block Party, sponsored by Chick-fil-A on Magnolia Avenue, on Friday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. at Town Creek Park. This FREE community event features live music, sales tax holiday weekend giveaways, and an outdoor movie! Bring a blanket and chairs and purchase dinner on-site from our sponsor, Chick-fil-A on Magnolia Avenue.
This year's event boasts live music from Jen Coates. Musicians Jen and Rob Slocumb, formerly of Martha's Trouble, have merged the sound of the former duo into a lifestyle brand encompassing music, fashion, and food. Using Slocumb's maiden name, Coates, Jen Coates takes the familiar sound of Martha's Trouble and makes it more acoustic-based and stripped down. Fresh off recording a new album at Cottonseed Studios in Opelika, Coates will have songs both new and old to share.
In addition to live music, the first 150 attendees through the gates will receive a goody bag of sales tax holiday weekend coupons and specials from local merchants. Limit, one bag per family. Children are encouraged to run free on the grounds at Town Creek Park and enjoy the playground, as well as arts and crafts activities from the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. The evening will conclude with a FREE outdoor movie at 8 p.m. featuring "The Blind Side" on the inflatable, outdoor screen.
