Auburn, Ala. - The City of Auburn, Auburn Arts Association, and Auburn Downtown Merchant Association would like to thank everyone who participated in the SummerNight Cupcake Contest during the 8th Annual SummerNight Downtown Art Walk. The contest was a huge success, with more than 100 cupcakes submitted. The SummerNight committee looks forward to offering this opportunity again in the future!
Special thanks to Father John Warren Wells of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, Beth Witten of Blue Turtle Creative, and Eric Stamp of STAMP were charged with the job of tasting all the cupcakes and choosing the best ones. Their job was not an easy one, and the SummerNight committee is grateful for their willingness to serve on the judging panel. Proceeds from the cupcake entries and sales benefited the Auburn Arts Association, a local, non-profit arts organization dedicated to promoting arts education and fostering community interest and participation in the arts.
Congratulations to all of the winners in this year's contest! First place went to Mindy Smith for her “Toomer’s Corner Lemonade Cupcake.” Second place went to Amanda Bradley for her “Song of the South Cupcake.” Julie McGowin took third place with her “Black Magic Cupcake.” Sadie Zabawa (“Peach Basket Cupcakes”), Mindy Smith (“Happy Days Cupcake” & “Ex-Spear-aMint-al Cupcake), and Alicia DeBardelaben (“Vanilla bean cupcakes with fruit compote filling cupcake”) received honorable mentions.
