Auburn, Ala. - The Auburn Police Division and Auburn University School of Pharmacy are partnering to host the 2014 Drug Take Back event on April 26, 2014, from 10 am to 2 pm at Our Home Pharmacy, located at 2320 Moore's Mill Rd, at the Ogletree Rd intersection in Auburn. This is a national event that is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration and hosted by local agencies to provide a safe and anonymous way to dispose of unused or unwanted prescription drugs properly. Members of the Auburn University School of Pharmacy and the Auburn Police Division will be at Our Home Pharmacy to collect any prescription drugs that need to be discarded. No information will be collected from the public related to the items dropped off for disposal.
According to Capt. Will Mathews, last year’s event resulted in the safe disposal of more than 100 pounds of various medications. “We collected everything from baby aspirin to powerful chemotherapy medications at our last event,” said Mathews. “Members of the School of Pharmacy were surprised at the wide variety of medications that we received, as well as the age of the prescriptions. The oldest prescription received last year was from 1972.” The pharmacy students will destroy any personal information that is affixed to the medication prior to submitting the items for disposal. Any questions about the event may be directed to Lt. Scott Mingus at (334) 501-3110.
