Auburn, Ala. – In August 2013, the Auburn City Council adopted the Renew Opelika Road Corridor Plan, a plan for the redevelopment and revitalization of the Opelika Road Corridor. The Plan’s recommendations include regulatory changes, streetscape improvements, and redevelopment opportunities.
As part of the Renew Opelika Road planning process, three public charrettes were organized for citizens to offer feedback on everything from design and implementation details to their overall vision for the Opelika Road corridor. Continuing Auburn’s tradition of emphasizing the importance of public input, the next public meeting will elicit feedback concerning the planning and implementation process: how to translate the collective vision expressed in the Plan into reality, focusing on zoning issues
At this Zoning Implementation Meeting, City staff will present proposed changes to the Zoning Ordinance based on the recommendations of the Renew Opelika Road Corridor Plan. Some of these modifications include new zoning designations that will provide reduced setbacks, increased flexibility for bufferyards, and changes to the table of permitted uses. These proposed changes will encourage and incentivize the type and form of development recommended by the Plan, and they represent a significant step in the plan’s implementation. The City invites all Opelika Road property owners, residents, and interested citizens to attend the Zoning Implementation Meeting on Tuesday, April 8 at 6:00 pm in the Harris Senior Center.
