Auburn, Ala. - The Auburn Area Community Theatre (AACT) will present “The Alto Part,” a play with music, by Barbara Gilstrap and directed by Steve Bice. Performances will be held Nov. 8, 9, 14, 15, and 16 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 10 and 17 at 2 p.m. at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. The Ticket Office opens 30 minutes prior to each performance.
Set in a small Texas town, “The Alto Part” tells the story of the mother of a young girl who seeks to keep her dreams of a singing career alive. Her fantasies are challenged by her cantankerous landlady, tough-talking friends, and the arrival of a pretty, young music teacher who will bring ambitions into conflict. This story will remind you of “Steel Magnolias” and “Picnic” as the women struggle with their disrupted dreams to find real friendship and harmony.
Sponsored by the Auburn Arts Association (AAA), the AACT's mission is to present quality, entertaining, and thought-provoking theatre experiences. The group seeks to serve the Auburn community by providing an avenue for artists and artisans to collaborate and create theatrical presentations and offer the community an opportunity for education and participation in the world of theatre.
