Computers located in the Electronic Services section (in the Hollifield Room to the right as you enter the front door) are for use by patrons who are 13 years and older. Younger patrons may use these computers only if a parent sits with the child.
Children who are 12 years and under should use the computers that are in front of the Youth Services desk. These computers are filtered to help eliminate web sites that are inappropriate for children. Parents should be aware, however, that the most effective Internet protection for their children is parental supervision.Library staff is not responsible for content viewed through the Internet. The computer area is a QUIET area. Computer patrons are asked to:
To use a computer, type the last 6 numbers on your library card into the box on the computer screen.
- Whisper.
- Use a low volume on headphones.
- Put cell phones on vibrate/silent.
When you type in your number, a 60 minute timer begins.
- Using a computer is like checking out a book, you must have a library card in good standing. Guests to the Auburn area may be given a one day guest card at the Youth Services Desk or the Electronic Services Desk.
- Do NOT use someone else's number.
- If you have a library card, but don't know your card number, ASK the Electronic Services staff. We will look it up for you ONE time if you have some form of identification with you.
Internet access is intended as a means of enhancing reference and research resources available at the Library. Therefore:
- When your time runs out, you may sign in again one more time for an additional 60 minutes. (Your work will not be lost.) There is a two hour daily limit for computer usage unless the need for more time is approved by the Electronic Services staff.
- If there are others waiting for a computer, library staff will ask people who have been on the computer the longest time to leave.
- Chat and instant messaging is prohibited.
- Playing non-educational games is not allowed.
- Do not look at pictures that would embarrass others.
