About the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center
Community Theatre, Ballroom Dancing, Featured Regional Artists and Traveling Exhibitions are just a sampling of what the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center has to offer. The Community Arts Center was constructed to better serve the artistic needs of the Auburn area and provide residents and visitors with access to an outstanding, active schedule of exhibitions, musical concerts, lectures, art classes and special events for children and adults throughout the year. The Arts Center also provides artists, dancers, and actors the opportunity to offer programs and instructional classes to area citizens. One of the premiere facilities of the City of Auburn Parks & Recreation Department, the Community Arts Center contains an Art Gallery, 2 studio/classrooms, a children's gallery, a conference room, and a performance room. The Community Arts Center currently offers dance, theatre, and art classes, as well as theatrical performances, dance recitals, and other activities. The Art Gallery is coordinated by the Auburn Arts Association. Past exhibitions include: the Watercolor invitational, Art in a Changing Era: Russian Children's Art and Master & Students invitational Exhibition. Innovative exhibitions are planned to highlight a variety of original artistic styles with many shows compiled from the extensive local talent. Some of the best regional art is showcased in the Annual Juried Art Exhibition, which was first organized in April 1999 to celebrate the dedication of the Community Arts Center. Each fall local amateur and professional photographers have the opportunity to compete in the annual Juried Photography Exhibition. The Community Arts Center's goal is to inform and educate the local community about art events at the Community Arts Center and beyond! You can explore throughout the website and find information regarding upcoming events at the Arts Center, as well as art exhibits, dance recitals, theatre dates, and community orchestra performances throughout the local community. The JDCAC website is the place to find out about it all! Take a few minutes to discover the arts in the Auburn / Opelika area. We hope you find a program you would like to participate in or an event you would like to attend.
